Hi my tax is due at the end on march...my S3 was first reg Oct 1975.

Just wondering if I will get it free this time.

Any ideas guys.

Nick.

Its all relative your vehicle slots into the correct tax exemption date if yes then you can tax it accordingly
Further note you tax it first and your V5C is then sent by the taxing post office to DVLA who then amend its status to Historic:D
Just wait till may then tax as above

It may be easier to get it changed to historic before the tax expires so you're not messing around with refunds. When I changed my 1974 Series 3 last year, it only took a couple of weeks through DVLA

Yes same for me, its not much money in the grand scheme of running a series land rover but its going to give me immense pleasure, although I will just put the money straight back into the land rover.

Yes!!
But most importantly it gets classed as....
HISTORIC :D:D

....so it's pretty straight forward to claim historic tax then, but what about if your v5 states built 1975 ( like mine is ) but not registered till later
Any ideas how to claim tax free this way?

Pretty sure its build date...
A lot of people before were trying to prove their build date to be eligible for Historic status
The vehicle has to be taxed or have tax running before DVLA will change v5c

Edlandy...is you look at the table in my link it shows an model built anytime in 75 is exempt come April...if fact if built before 1/1/76 it is also.

Yep, but it doesn't address when the v5c states a build date ( in my case) as well as a reg date . Carnt see the local post office dragon getting her head round this, when she struggles with a fookin large letter....!
Sorry I'm drifting off into a rant!!
I'm sure there's a way of ringing it through to Swansea, in the good old days of 'local' ( mine was 90miles away!) dvla offices I'm sure I could have popped over and got it sorted. I changed my herald that way to historic tax after it had been of the road for 20 years :)

AFAIK you have to initially go through Swansea not PO. The very helpful P6 club link explains it all. Just read it.

When I went to tax the BSA Bantam motor cycle and had not been on the road for over 30 years...I just took the log book to the PO...they filed in what was needed and marked it as Historic...and posted it off to Swansea for me...and taxed my bike tax free.

That what I'm going to do come April 1st.
