I've started to notice what can only be described as a tinkle sound coming from the front left hand side of the engine bay or passenger airbag area at high revs on my TD5 (2500 upwards). It's certainly not a big metallic part, whatever it is, and isn't causing any issues other than annoying the hell out of me.

I know it's a longshot, but has anyone else had a similar issue and managed to find the cause? :)

It it sounds like urination? Like on to a flat rock or into dry vegetation?
A tinkle sound can be nuanced.

Ok, maybe tinkle wasn't the best choice of words, so think along the lines of a small strip of aluminum hitting another small strip of aluminum :)

Is it like a ball bearing in a tin ?
You can take a long handled screwdriver / extension bar and put it on various parts of the engine (carefully), and put this to you ear, best put on skull behind ear, to listen for water pump etc.
First other thing I'd check is the turbo heat shield, the rear bracket breaks and starts rattling...
The second one is a bit more troublesome... it is the power steering pipe from the reservoir to the pump... it has a aliminium 180° bend at the bottom, which often vibrates against the sump... Check this as it can actually wear through the pipe in which case you will lose the PS fluid ... and that's messy ...

This was my first thought as the sound is very much like tapping the heat shield with a screwdriver, I'll check the rear bracket at the weekend.

Thanks :)

Sounds like it could be a bolt coming loose on the heat shield, which then resonates, my old Saab used to do it.
