As in the title, on my Def 90 I've had this noise for the last couple of months and nothing has dropped off yet so I'm hoping its nothing major but thought I'd put it out there to see if anyone has had similar?

Its not every day, in fact can hear nothing for a week then it can come on every other day or so, a few times a day. It seems to be when the engine is coasting or under light pressure and sounds just like someone cutting blocks, if I accelerate hard it disappears.

So any ideas or is it just another landy quirk like all the others I'm learning about?!

Thanks!

rear diff would be my guess as mines doing exactly same. noisy in the slack gearing. if not that then prop shaft problem or both

I agree - Check all four Universal joints on prop shafts.
Ten pound each on ebay for GKN and all you need is a vice!

Does it do it on over run?
If so it could be the PTO bearing in the transfer box. If it hasn't had the cross drilled mod done on the input gear then that could well be the problem. Easy job to do in situ if you have a pre TD5 Fender ... take the PTO cover off and the sump casing and all will be revealed. The bearing had disintegrated on mine as it wasn't getting any EP90 to it. Plenty of threads on here telling you how to do the mod.

Thanks for all the ideas.... so bearing in mind I'm a bird and am certainly not able to do any of the aforementioned things myself.. I need to take it to be looked at and not leave it and ignore it?!

Thanks! ;-)
