Hi all, my 110 csw 94 has its original engine which has now done 260,000 miles. It's never had major engine work and runs like a dream. What are people's opinions on maybe some sort of preventive maintenance or parts refresh. I want to keep the original engine going as it's a very original vehicle.

When were the injectors last serviced? At 180K miles I discovered, to my cost, that they do need servicing occasionally.

Just keep servicing it at regular intervals. As the old saying goes if it ain't broke don't fix it.

I've dredged this thread up as I was wondering similar things.
Mine's got 150k miles, it leaks a bit of oil, smokes a bit, drives OK, as far as I'm concerned.
Are there tell tell signs though that something is getting seriously wrong? I'd rather prevent that then fix it later, but do I just have to wait for it to go bang? :)
At what stage do I bite the bullet and go for a rebuild?

Seen utility 300s with 325 k miles on with very little work.
Just service it regularly and do any jobs that need doing.
Rebuilding a 300 is usually unnecessary work

do they get problems with MOT emissions? Especially considering smoke. Also somebody said about crankcase pressure getting high meaning worn pistons maybe?

Mines just shy of 200k and runs like a dream. I put cheap 10w40 in it every 3k miles, but generally change the oil when it changes from dark brown to black. Don’t worry about a puff of black smoke on start up either. The most engine work mine has had is cam belt kits.
I’m sure I read on hear that there are several well looked after 300tdi engines chugging about with 400k plus on the clock.

do they get problems passing MOT emissions tests?

tbh I only do a couple of thousand miles a year in it, the main thing is to pass MOT

Even if they do get problems, you can adjust the pump down to reduce power/smoke to get them through the test.

I might be back here looking for instructions :):)
Top tip of the day is find the sticker under the bonnet marked as a percentage, remove said sticker then tester has to test car for an average turbo diesel which is twice as high as the under bonnet sticker says!
Much like this cough cough!
