I'm looking to buy a defender eventually, should I be worried about buying a high miler one?
And which engine is considered best, I'm looking for a 300tdi or td5.
Also what should I look out for when buying one, not too fussed on age.

Cheers

Avoid anything thats done any mild-serious green laning,

I would consider farm used for a bargin,

Look for sellers who have used theirs as school runners,

I bought mine as a 300tdi station wagon at 72k, now 125k, only had to replace usual rotten bits and tyres,

Mileage isnt a problem as most likely high miles= road. Crazy low mileage most likely farm uae etc. mileage at the end of the day i just a number , depends if they have been hatd miles or motorway and where its lived e.g. Near the sea, or if its been regularly serviced. Best luck finding one

Thanks for the help, I'm gonna go have a look at a few this weekend then look at selling what I've got now. Is there many places around the north east to take them off road?

I'm in South Shields, not far from Newcastle. Would love to know of some places to take them, would push me even more into getting one

I think you have it a bit wrong there...

All the folk I know who green lane look after theirs very well, me included, regular servicing, stuff washed off/greased after every trip.

PnP is slightly different, there seems to be 2 camps, one who still look after them very well, and those that thrash and trash, although amongst Defenders, they are mainly looked after, its the more disposable vehicles that tend to be thrashed.

All this latest electrogadgetry and it don't tell you what you need to know!

Chuck it away and get yerself a phone that, when it rings, you say, 'Hello', and the person at the other end says, 'Hello', coz that's why they was called 'mobile phones'! ;) ;)
