I'm the type who doesn't bother with big 4x4/SUV vehicles. Driven a few before abroad (Toyota Prados/Fortuners) which IMO = :5back2: In fact I'd be happy to attack this winter with the MR2 on it's stock tyres.

But when a friend of my old man was selling his for peanuts I thought f:censored:k it :D

'93 Land Rover Discovery 1 200TDi. Having driven small cars for years, a few notes;

2+ tonnes, old & vague & short ratio gearbox and smallish TDi means it's comically slow off the line if you don't rush it. Seems to take forever to get to 30mph especially when cold (thankfully it's size means you don't notice the queue of cars behind you). Once in 4th and above 30mph it's not bad actually getting to and maintaining 60/70+ without much bother.

Sure it big, but doesn't seem to make much difference unless you're parking (excellent visibility though). What you do notice it how high up you are - even higher than a motorbike - and see things you didn't notice before. In fact I seemed to looking down on practically every single car on the road - even fractionally higher than Discovery 3's and Range Rovers.

Old school diesel/tractor noise from the 200TDi, which I quite like :D There also seems to be a bit of turbo woosh but still seems quite strong given the power and weight so I don't think it's leaking boost.

It also seems to handle a lot better than I expected and the body control is quite good :5bdriving: On the other hand the ride is not a good as I was expecting as you can still tell the roads around Aberdeenshire are utterly :censored:. It's better than the MR2, but not by a huge amount.

If you don't want it I'll take it off your hands...

:welcome2: to the Loony place

Cheers :)

Well I've been driving it for a week and I think it (or she?) is a keeper :) Only touched the MR2 a couple of times and the motorbike is still in the shed (although that has more to do with the weather lol)

Do a search for 'EGR blank', 'fuel pump tweak' and 'de-cat', these may help your sluggish Disco.

I noticed a difference when I did the EGR ages ago, just got around to the Fuel pump tweak and it made a MASSIVE difference to the pre-turbo power and I have a de-cat pipe that I need to fit

Once warmed up the performance isn't too bad (for 100ish BHP and 2+ tons) and block shifting (1 to 3 or 2 to 4) helps. It's mainly before then when I'm keeping below 2000rpm/half throttle/off-boost until the temperature rises. Is this sensible or am I being over cautious?
