hi i have a landrover pre defender most of the chassis number is there matching logbook and vin plate but its had work by the chassis number and last bit was ground off to weld to is there a way of getting this sorted

cheers regards

Most are either missing or to rusty to read, your chassis plate is the best bet, that's where mot check - or are you hoping for export? Some disagree but I think it's totally alright to re-stamp the number [don't shout about it though!] Number punches available from machine mart. Good idea to practise on some scrap. Good luck

Personally I'd leave it as it is, nothing seems dodgier than a tampered with chassis number even if you only had the best intentions of getting it readable

Hi Mossy, You need to find someone with the same size stamps and get them to re stamp the missing numbers in the same manner. It is a very easy task, first though take any rust or paint or galv off that area to be stamped using a small rotary wire brush on a drill to get a good viewable result. Suggest you over spray with an aerosol once finished to protect from rust.
