Hi everybody - new owner hope all you guys are good... I have an 07 FL2 2.2 manual and have really bad O/S/R wheel going noisy & shaky on left turns - the wheel aint buckled and is balanced.

It's like the brake drum or hub is warped - or maybe the wheel bearing collapsing (no movement in it_

I even wondered if the rear or middle Diff had collapes or seized.

Can anybody help at all please from past experience of this?

Might be worth looking to see if either of the driveshaft joints (inboard or outboard) on that corner have failed? Also, I know you say the wheel is balanced and the tyre is OK, but for a quick sanity check, might be worth swapping the rear wheels left to right, to make sure the vibration doesn't move to the other side. Tyres can do strange things if they develop a carcass fault!

Have you had the Haldex serviced or the rear diff replaced?

Many people think the Haldex does not need services, but it should be - fluid and filter replacement I believe.

The rear diffs on F2s up to 2010 were soft as cheese - most of them will probably have been replaced by now, initially under warranty, then after a fight with JLR customer service and now at the owners expense.

Some of the Haldex/diff issues may cause the symptoms you describe. Have a look at this page...

One of the points they make is...

If the car is suffering a juddering on full lock and there are no error messages displayed this is a sign that the Haldex unit is failing/failed internally, unfortunately the only solution is to change the complete unit for a reconditioned or new unit.

If you think that may be the cause, I'd be tempted to take the advice to replace it that with a pinch of salt and maybe give it a service first. I believe this can be done at home, there are videos on YouTube, but you need to make sure you are looking at info for your version of the Haldex unit - which on a 2007 car is the Gen 3 I believe.

What ever, you should check out the basics first like the brake disc and, as said, the drive shafts.

Seasoned Freelander 2 owners change the haldex oil evry 20k miles and the filter every 40k miles.

LR never listed oil changes on the haldex in the service list. They do list the rear diff oil to be changed every 10 years. So peeps probably forget about the haldex or don't realise it contains oil.

Did this and the tyres are goosed - however the back ens is still the same. I think my Haldex is playing up - i'd wsear it is stuck in permanent four wheel drive

Great advice thank you

Good point - The vibration no but I can 'feel' the back wheels are being driven compared to when i freewheel if that makes sense

You need to get in on some loose ground, tuning in circles with a helper seeing what the rear wheels are up to. They shouldn't skip or slip, and if they do, you could well have a Haldex problem.

It is going into the Main Dealers on Friday courtesy of the guy I bought it from last month
