hi just rejoined site as not had a range rover for Cpl yrs now. had several in past and luv them. just bought a 98 p38 dse manual with clutch prob and seeking advise.
person I got it off said the pedal went to floor and lost all fluid. he bought a new slave cyl. but never fitted.
so got it home and paid son to fit slave, as we bled it the same happened.
question is.....should there be a retaining clip on fork to hold pushrod on this model ? also noticed the pushrod is coming out of cylinder at quite an angle , is that right? any ides please.
many thanks alan

oh no that's what I was thinking, do u know if there is a retaining clip on end of fork? and I spose gearbox out is quite a job on one of these ? thanks for reply, alan

Not a bad job....just nuts and bolts.

Weight is an issue if you leave the transfer box in place as it then becomes a large heavy lump.

Removing the transfer box, makes removing the gearbox more manageable for the home DIY'er, unless you have a ramp and transmission jack to hand!

+1 to roll pins had to do mine earlier in the year, and when you do it double pin it or pop rivet end down the middle, on mine I triple pined it don't want to have to do it again in a hurry
as said easy job to do just big akward heavy bit to deal with and change the clutch while the box is out valeo kit £150 , and we are here to help with any questions.

ah ok thanks for info. been trying to get a Haynes manual but looks like they don't do 1 for this model anymore,
spose I will have to just get stuck in

DO NOT press on START DOWNLOAD select the blue link above it. With large file warning along side it in red.

thanks for all the info guys, having trouble opening all the stuff but will try again tomorrow , think theres a prob with laptop, or maybe me ? lol

Are you using a Mac or Windows? Think there is a different version for the Mac?

Hi grrrr. Im not great with computors but its windows. Ive had trouble in past with this . I will get 1 of my sons to see what im doing wrong. But looks like this project may be shelved for few wks now. So will be back on then to annoy people. Thanks

OK. With RAVE it is simple to follow. Way better than a Haynes manual. The clutch has to be DOWN when you're offering the gearbox back up.

No not so, clutch is depressed only to use alignment tool then box should engage easily. Pressing before first motion shaft is engaged in spinner splines will cause spinner to drop out of alignment. Pressing clutch to engage first motion shaft in spigot bearing if it is slightly out is fine though. ;)

Couldn't get mine in and then I read RAVE (I'm a man so I read the instructions afterwards) and it said put the clutch down so I did and it went straight in!

RAVE only says to depress the clutch to use the centering tool, then to let it off and remove it. If tool has been used correctly gearbox should engage. But if it does not because alignment is slightly out, clutch can be depressed to engage spigot providing splines are already engaged. ;)

That'd be it. Couldn't get it all the way in and then read the instructions, pressed the clutch down and it slipped straight in. Well, I say slipped straight in. With a lot of shoving and puffing it went in.
