Hi I'm Greg and I just bought my first rover last weekend. I've been eyeing for a while now and finally decided to pull the trigger on 97 discovery se7. Truck was a good buy (I hope). So on to the bad, I bought truck with no radio so last night I pick up a new aftermarket cd player with install harness. So I hook up all wires and go to hook connectors together when I notice two wires are cut on factory harness. It was the ground wire and the constant 12v wire. Well instead of trying to reattached to short end at connector, decided to connect straight to radio wires. I went to strip 12v wire and then realized I headed disconnected the battery. Interior lights shut off and key ignition light shuts off. Disconnect battery and finish hooking rest of wires up. Go to look for fuse no fuses are blown. Cigarette lighter still works so I test radio on external battery source. Radio turns on so I hook constant 12v(yellow wire) to acc(red wire) together and radio turns on. I'm pretty sure I double checked all fuses and can't find any blown. So that's one problem then I say ok radios on let's hear something. Nothing no sound at all. It was getting late so I gave up for the night figuring amp is probably shot. Wake up this morning to rain which this is first rain since we bought truck. Whole right side of truck is wet. I done a little. It is searching and found some info on drain tubes or seals on roof. I know every car has it problems especially when 14-15 years old. Just looking for a little direction. Sorry for lengthy first post and thanks in advance for any and all help

:welcome2: do a seach mate, there's loads of sunroof leak threads in the disco section.enjoy

So whats the problem...the stereo not working, the sunroof leaking or both?

Both but the stereo problem stumps me more. I'm sure I can fix sunroof but thought I'd throw out there since I was writing a book anyway.

Point taken not truck I'll use disco from now on.

The junction box for the speakers is behind the flip down glove box (look for a black box with a plug that has the following colour wires)

wiring colours for the speakers:
front left: black & black & white
front right: black & orange and black & red
rear left: black & yellow and black & orange
rear right: black & green and black & blue

I cut all of the wires of the above colour wires at the plug that goes into the black box and wired em all straight to the new stereo - works a treat!!

Ok so bypassing amp is best option. No problem but what about the constant power wire. I could run a new one but I'm pretty sure its causing my interior lights to not work. Any body know if there is an inline fuse on that wire or where it gets it power from. And thanks again for all help and being patient with me

The fuse box on the drivers side ( the panel in front of the drivers seat) has a 20 amp aux fuse - check that!
I blew mine fitting the stereo - it'll be blown mate have a look!
IIRC top left of the fuse panel/box ;)

It's fuse 6 in satellite box 2.

If your clock keeps resetting that confirms it.

Thanks guys :D hopefully I have most problems fix tonight or this weekend. Wanted to do it last night but my wife's sister had a baby yesterday and you know how that goes.

So I'm glad to report back that I fixed almost all my problems this past weekend. The fuse problem was satellite 2 was pushed behind main fuse box. Set back up to original and change fuse. Took radio back out and hooked amp turn on to acc power wire and amP came on all speakers work to my surprise. It rained pretty good here then we got some early snow and was able to tell exactly where my leak was coming from. Its coming out of a pillar and through headliner only on passenger front corner so I'm gonnna assume the drain is messed. Didn't get a chance to fix yet but will be fixing as soon as I clean out the garage and make room in there for disco to fit. I already bookmarked a DIY on removing headliner with takin out whole thing. Seems pretty straight forward. I really want to thank all of you for your help an input. Can't wait to take her out on some trails and show my friends up that have these "awesome off road trucks" and maybe I'll get a chance to take picture of me pullin them out.:D

Good luck with the new Disco. Just keep in mind that Discoveries like attention and that's why they are always going wrong in some form or another. However they will always get you home and not a lot stops them.

Sunroof drain pipes are typical, that's why I brought one with no sunroofs. Check the carpets at the front underneath. Whilst the carpet may be dry the sound proofing underneath will stay wet for weeks, don't ask me how I know!

Another check for water ingress at the front is where the water runs out from under the windscreen. It is deflected by a small piece of angle and sometimes this rots and then the seam at the base of the floor and arch will rot. Just look underneath the inner wings and you will see easily enough. I am currently welding mine up, you can see my thread for photos.

Finally the rear alpine windows can leak un noticed. Agai a check behind the trim will suffice.

Good luck and welcome aboard the forum.

Cheers
