i am looking at getting a Hi-Lift for my defender (for off road use / recovery where needed) and looking at the options that are available

to the question is
1, Genuine Hi-Lift
v's
2, other brands like tmax - T-MAX 4FT HI-LIFT JACK | eBay

Ok i know what some people will say "genuine" but iam sure you can all understand there is a big price difference and the price i just want to explore all options before i spend any £

thanks

Given the nature of Hi Lift jacks and the potential of injury from failure I would recommend getting a genuine Hi Lift jack and not a cheaper copy. Why would anybody want a cheap copy of something that can be lethal?

Don't get an unbranded one, they are crap. No idea about t-max though

The t-max I had was ok, good and strong. Needed to be careful and make sure the pins were located properly letting it down but I've used genuine Hi-lifts that were the same.

Yeah, not as if the genuine ones are perfect are they?

I have a 5ft T-Max one and have not had any problems with it. It has been used for lifting and winching off road and has been fine. When lowering you do need to be a little careful that it has engaged but as has been said this can be the same with all of them.
There are lots of them about on ebay etc. I got mine second hand although I was very careful to choose one that was good condition and had not been abused and destroyed. The one I ended up with looked as if it had never been used. Even the paint on the lifting foot was pristine.

Do they still make Jackall? I bought one a decade ago, seems really well made. I can recommend them if they are still about.

I've got a t max and it's great, use it for lifting in a hurry, pulling out fence posts. Never had any problems, just keep em well lubed and they'll be fine!
