Hi i'm justin, i have a 9 4.0 se rr, I need some advice, when it is cold it is very ticky but when warmed up or when moving it quietns down.

Been to a land rover dealer they rekon on a cam lobe vehicles done 76k, any ideas ?

I also have a j reg vogue se for sale on ebay taxed and mot'd

Your garage is correct the cam and followers are warn, because its only got 76k showing that means nothing, the engine could have been misused i.e. run out of oil at some stage, used for heavy towing ect ect, and or the Speedo may be incorrect

the problem was down to a misfire and leaking mainfold gasket which the dealership did not spot.

i was asking question and saying hi as this site was recomend to me as one of the best.

The difference of noise between a warn cam and followers, and a blowing exhaust manifold is quite considerable, strikes me your dealer needs some new mechanics

i had that when i put my v8 disco in a ditch,musta caught the exhaust on the way in when it was fired up and hit a 1000 rpm sounded like the lobes had fell off and the thing was gonna blow up,crapped meself at the thought of the expense,got it home had a poke about and you could hear it blowing on the downpipe on tick over got the missus to pick the revs up and it sounded like an old cortina rattling away,just slacked the downpipes off re-seated and tightened them up,sweet as a nut purred
