Hi

Thought I had better join up as I have been lurking for a while and have just bought a disco.

I have bought a 99 TD5 manual, this is my second car and bought for some fun.

The spec is as follows:
Terra firma +2 kit
HD bumpers
Guards
Mud tyres

Intending on doing a few mods but thought I would ask a couple of questions first, not sure if I'm dong the right thing?

Fit diff lock selector as mine doesn't have it
Tank guard
Front winch (apache)
Sort crunchy 2nd gear
Sort gear lever positioning plate, as resting position too far to left
Central locking doesn't unlock but will lock

What do you guys think?

All the best

Welcome. I'm not an offroader so can't advise there but had my 2002 TD5 since 2003!
Crunchy gears? If you don't know when/if it's been done a gear oil change is a simple and worthwhile thing to do. Might as well do the rest while you're there and make a day of it! (Txfr box/diffs)
Re central locking- all doors or just some? Individual actuators have a habit of packing up and aren't too cheap. They might have gone one at a time? If any doors unlock it's probably them. If none unlock something else!!
Good luck. Plenty of people will help soon!

Hi, you will certainly find lots of interesting information on here.

For the central locking, I can suggest you try locking and unlocking a couple of times with the key inserted in the in the lock. Then remove the key again and try the fob again. Mine does the same thing from time to time.

Cheers!

Hi, what i can say is to replace the whole lot at the gear lever bias(imo the plate is cracked), bits 4, 6, 8, 9 in this link Allbrit.de - Ersatzteile für LAND ROVER & MG ROVER google out the part numbers ... when you tighen the plate select 4'th and keep the lever fully pushed to right.

for the central unlocking listen carefully at each latch when you unlock with fob, if you hear some activity it means they all went in time but the previous owner didnt want to spend on them and you need lathches all around, if no sound we'll speak then

in that link click on ''back to navigation'' and you can find part numbers for what ever you need

Thanks for all the info, had a listen at the door locks, can hear some activity and the rear door does unlock.

I'm led to believe it has a recent recon rear diff, but on further inspection it does appear that the transmission fluid is leaking at the hub, n/s rear

I have seen a few cheap disco 2's on the Internet might buy one for spares at this rate.

Thanks again

foe the price of a used D2 you can put new parts on yours and make it like new cos the D2 bits are not expensive at all...that's the way to go IMO, and you'll not end up with a full yard of junk in this case..think about that

I was pleasantly surprised when I bought the brakes.

Prices are about 2/3 that of trade Vauxhall
