Just to say hello, bought my first Landrover yesterday on eBay! Used to take my father's Disco off-roading a few years back, his friend had a lightweight and i've always fancied my own since then. Thrown myself in at the deep end so to speak with a 1972 series 3 diesel. It's a solid machine, needs a little bit of work but i'm no stranger to getting the spanners out of a Sunday morning having owned 4 classic bikes over the last 2 years. Decided to swap two wheels for four on impulse which unfortunately means i will have to sell my beloved 1981 XS1100 Yamaha but you can't have everything!

Looking forward to getting this beast off-road and talking to/ or meeting like minded members. I'm sure i will be relying on some of you soon for technical expertise!

I live in Walshaw, Bury, Lancs. Does anyone know anywhere reasonably local where you can go off-roading, quarries etc?

Cheers - Rob.

Welcome to the forum Bobbylove.

How much did you pay for the Landy? I got my Disco from ebay back in January, it seems there's a few of us on here who got their toys from ebay. Someone on here will help you out with local quarries etc I'm sure.

Shame about the bike but thats life, we can't have all the toys!

Yeah, it's a good place to look for used Landy's, there's loads on there and seem to be selling cheaper than the magazine classifieds were asking for. I'd been looking for a few weeks when this one came up. Coincidentally it was only about 5 mins round the corner from where i live! Paid £1200 for it with 'buy it now' which i thought was a bargain, and it's absolutely solid, has been well looked after. Seen similar examples selling for a lot more on eBay so i snapped it up.

Found a couple of quarries on the net yesterday in Whitworth, Rochdale and there's one on Knowl Hill near Owd Betts in Rochdale but i'm not sure if you can use it, does anyone know about this one? Don't know if anyone else has had this thought, but i used Google Satellite maps yesterday to check out a couple of quarries, the detail is quite good but they haven't mapped the whole of Britain yet.

Cheers - Rob.

Two kids, no-where to put them and my bank manager!

I want a Range Rover to bob-tail and build to how I want it, but the lack of storage space has put that on the back burner for now.

If you want info on Cown Quarry at Whitworth Bobbylove, check out the thread in the "Off Roading" section.

Yeah, must admit I am running out of room. Thought I might buy a bridge-layer - could park that wherever I liked, eh?

Now then, welcome to the site, nice to have a fellow biker on here as well :) i ride a harley myself...bit of a different league to your yam though lol

good luck with your s3 !

I’m not surprised at the amount of Landy owners that also ride bikes, it’s nice to remind yourself how it feels to go above 50 miles an hour once in a while, or what 0-60 in under a minute feels like – or even how it feels to be warm and dry in a thunderstorm!!! Seriously though, our Landy’s aren’t meant to break any speed records, just like Harley Davidson’s are meant to go off road (MT350 excluded) but it would be fun trying! Have I just invented a new sport? Imagine a chromed up fat boy with knobblies! :D
