Ok well ive had a break from Landys for about 10 years after owning a series3 2 1/4 Diesel, 3500 V8 range rover, a 110 defender and a 200 TDI disco. Ive just bought a 1983 Series 3 88" which im currently working through the jobs that need doing before the MOT.

Welcome to the loonyzone, mate
I always use engine oil in the filters and it has done no harm.
