hi i have a 1988 defender which i,m currently restoring/rebuilding its had a daihatsu 2.8 turbo conversion and i,m wondering what is the best gearbox to run with it ?thanks

Always a good starto_O

nowt much wrong with the Landee fitted Lt77 setup unless youre thinking huge power;)

Rich.

Whilst the 2.8 Tdi Daihatsu engine is a massive improvement over the old 2.5 N/A and even the 2.5 turbo engines, it ain't no half shaft snapper I can tell you lol :)

I would stick with an LT77 and LT230 transfer case to be honest, reliable, cheap and pretty original.

sorta my point, cheap & easily accessable (plenty around)

also they fit the chassis & body so less mix&match:cool:

Them 2.8 are bomb proof they will never die no rocket ship tho 60mph and that was all it had.

Hi and welcome!

Not seen a daihatsu conversion for a while due to the Tdi being so popular. But it was quite popular in the 90’s before Tdi’s became cheaper. I’d stick with the standard gearbox.

I fitted a Dihatsooooo td onto a vollvo740 on an autobox for someone years ago....

good engines but no racecar.

thanks everyone for your messages and advice , it,s currently got the original LT77 box in it at the moment and yeah to say it,s slow is slight understatement but i do like the idea of the 2.8td ,
