Hi guys, just joined, I have a defender 90 td5 1999 reg which I have owned for four years and have loved almost every day apart from when she breaks down . When I steer left she pulls violently to the right with heavy steering, also encounter loud clonk when turning left slowly on full lock. have replaced steering box and steering damper as there was play in steering wheel movement , but all to no avail. At slow speed in straight line she seems ok ,no rumbles or noise, have checked everything underneath and appears good, Would appreciate any thoughts or advice, thanks

If you can get a wheel up at a time, get a bar and give everything a good wiggle and spin.
should be obvious when you find it if it’s enough to fight back through the steering

Defender section is best

Welcome :)

Welcome to the mad house of landy ownership:):D
have you looked at the cv joints.
Hi , many thanks , had a local specialist to take a look, they picked her up on a trailer, upon inspection they have told me both cv joints are gone, they have quoted £700 to replace, I nearly fell over, does anyone know labour time to fit new cv joints, parts I reckon are around £100. any advice or help to my wallet would be gratefully received, thanks

Sorry i don`t have a clue what it would cost on a defender, best ask in the Defender section of the forum there may even be a guide on how to do it.

Ask int Defender section.

not a cheap job but that does seem steep? It is something you can do yourself but will take time, patience and back ache. Hub nuts are usually seized up can be good idea to give a local indie a pint to crack them off with an air gun, then you can undo them easy enough yourself
