hi, can anyone pse help. my disco 2 td5 automatic works fine at seal level, with a slight turbo delay, but at altitude, 4.000 feet and above becomes undriveable, with a 2 second turbo lag. can it be a faulty maf ? once it gets going its ok but overtaking becomes a timing issue with the turbo slow to kick in. I have removed the maf , cleaned it with spirits, checked all plug connections and fuses. butch

Could be Maf but other possible alternatives include:
- fuel pump delivering at lower than standard pressure
- fuel fiter clogged
- vacuum leak at intake manifold or associated hoses
- faulty injectors

Sounds like you're up in the Highveld, Butch?

I'd also think MAF is the problem. Perhaps pull over when you have the problem, switch off and disconnect the MAF multiplug. Then see if there is any change for the better. If there is an improvement, you may need a new MAF.

tks for that, would the above not effect the performance at sea level as well though. its only at altitudes of 3000 ft and higher that in manifests itself.

You are right it should - but... the engine works harder at higher alts and it if you have a weakness in these systems (as opposed to a clear failure) it may not necessarily show at sea level, but only under the strain of higher alts.

ok, i got that and thanks, ill start working on checking each system slowly. Man its frustrating, local agents are little or no help with this type of problem, most saying , all disco's are like that. Thats utter nonsense because nobody would buy or drive them at altitude. see ya

any ideas on how i can check for a vacuum leak at the manifold , and do you perhaps know what the correct fuel pump pressure should be ?
