My vogue v8 td 2006 plate has started to splutter when first starting from cold. Any ideas what it could be. Hubby's not too pleased as always said they are a money pit, so you can imagine what it's like in our household !!

Does it run smooth when hot ? Id say start simple. Check any pre heating fuel side the engine has on it and any blockages on the air side

I've been and brought some fuel cleaner hoping it would help, seemed to run fine and thought the problem had gone. Gone to go out in it again and it felt like the engine was going to jump out of the bonet

It's fine once it's running and warm, just when I first start it when cold. Would a diagnostic pick up the problem?

Not much mileage then....was wondering if it was excessive wear causing low compression when cold...as components warm and expand, gaps close etc....

Have you considered the ECU Temp Sensor??

If it is giving faulty readings to the ECU, and the ECU thinks the engine is warm when it is cold, this alters the fuelling and can lead to difficult starting and lumpy running...until such time the engine is actually up to temp and the fuelling is then correct.

Ant what pre heating do they have on them? I know my TD4 had glow plugs but guessing these may have moved on to preigntion heaters in the manifold. I'm fairly sure they have a fuel heater as well (clicks when on start up?).

Not quite so sophisticated, the TDV8's do still have glow plugs....

She PMd me Ant advised her to look at glow plugs. They are favorite for her problem.
