Hows your battery? lots of faults come up with a battery that's not fully charged, do that first see if the fault come up again if I was you

No traction had been lost but car had been sat for five days(which it does every week) so hope it was just a battery glitch.....Many thanks to those who posted reply.

keep us informed, it nice to know if a problem has been sorted, and helps others

Mine was coming up alternator fault, battery was down on charge and car wouldnt start sometimes and I got the traction failure message too. new alternator and all seems fine now, traction works as I was out "testing" on Sunday

If it sits for 5 days every week, the message will probably come back. Used to happen to me every day - second short journey of the day. Got a good battery (Bosch Silver S4027/069) and never saw the message again. Old battery was only 18 months old, but was cheap rubbish.

But before shelling out on a new battery, test the battery voltage with engine running - should be about 14 volts. If not, either alternator is on way out, or connections between alternator and battery are bad.
