Hi There
Freelander Facelift 2004 2.5 V6 Petrol
Please advise me a garage or someone who will be able sort out my issue.
Coolant bubbling, miss a bit a day, under cup oil looks like Jelly .
Also sometimes temperature sensor getting crazy as go up to the top and get back to normal (half) after while.
When I change coolant (3 days ago ) just about 3 liters go "out" and "in" so looks like it's a air in system.
Thermostat looks fine, it is difficult to take it out so I don't check that.
Any suggestions please?
Any one who's can look on this and repair head gasket if necessary for reasonable price?
I'm in Kent Dartford way.
3 mechanics confirm it is a head gasket, just one is to lazy to check proper so advise me to look around check to be sure .
Thank You for help.
Appreciate

Hi DanielJR,
hopefully your reading this in time to consider if you've already taken apart your engine - consider from my mistakes!
I had the same symptoms as you, I have a KV6 2001 Freelander, and I went ahead and renewed the head gasket. Many months later, alls good now, until recently when it's started to over heat. I checked out why and I can see that it has started losing a tiny bit of coolant but I can see no external leak 100%. I know it's not the heater matrix or metal pipe or radiator as I renewed all these when I did the HG job a few months ago. I got a coolant pressure test kit and pumped up the pressure to 15 psi and left it for 10 mins, it slowly falls a tiny fraction and about 1-2mm of coolant level disappers in the process. I entrusted the task of HG change to an engine rreconditioner with 15+ years of experience, I took the heads and block to him and he did the rest and I picked it up with the new HG and the heads mated to the block. Only after doing more research, I noticed that this engine appears to have a design flaw. The original and aftermarket sleeves can microvibrate in the block causing them to hit the head gasket and cause a tiny coolant leak or sometimes blow the head gasket depending on severity. This also then leads to the white smoking/coolant burning that appears to be prevalent in a lot of KV6's where there's also evidence of coolant loss. If your going to the expense of doing the head gasket, I would recommend you order new sleeves and liners and have them resealed. The following would be recommended but not required, though I will be doing it: new pistons and rings, new bearings, new exhaust/intake valves and valve guides.
My fear is that if you go ahead and just renew the HG, the original cause might be ignored, and, like mine, it risks failing again. Address the root cause. Do it right and do it once.
