Just looked at snorkel again, and the only bit I am worried about is where the pipe from turbo meets the inner wing.
I used silicone when I fitted it but hope its sealed all the way round.
Only one way to find out I suppose ;-)

Hmmmm no easy way of testing I suppose..... what about with the engine running cover the top / end of the snorkle and listen for vacume air leaks?? I would guess you'd want to cause a partial vacume not stall the engine....
 
Might I suggest something a little more substantial than a plastic bag. Trying deperatly to remove molton plastic from the innards of a turbo or unblocking an intercooler cos it sucked out a section of plastic bag can be a real pain!!!

I have a tool called a smoke pro, it run's on compressed air and baby oil (no wise cracks) a bung goes in the snorkel end, remove the pipe from the turbo a cone goes in with a pipe smoke will come out of any un-sealed or split pipe, you are welcome to bring your defender to my garage on Saturday if you want, and that goes to anyone else who wants to make sure there pipe work is ok.
