nice one mate, cant wait, be good to get some advice on recovery point tyres etc and whether its worth doing some stuff to mine or getting a early 90's disco on a classic policy for some fun and games,

If it's your daily driver and as it's still pretty new, keep yours as standard and go for a cheap 300tdi disco and add a few off-road goodies to that, for playtime. You'll destroy your 52 plate one if you go serious off-roading, no matter how careful you are.
 
200tdi is better than the 300tdi engine so im told
but they are rot boxes so be careful if u do get on check sills and rear boot space.
 
Did a bit on the Spydiemobile today. Swapped the Handbrake over for a new one, but it's still not perfect, but it works, sort of. Needs more time on it, but it rained. One of the jobs on the list before Salisbury was to check gearbox oils after it leaked. Fixed leak, but ran out of time and never checked the levels. Transfer box was fine. Took level plug out of main gearbox, nothing came out.:eek: oops. Gearchange was getting a bit heavy, so it's now got some nice EP90 in it and it's much happier.
All set for Whaddon tomorrow. The rain is falling and as we all know Rain = Mud:D:D:D:D

200tdi easier to work on, but 300tdi much newer motor, so less rust and easy to tune too.
I'd be temped by TD5 and then go and see Twisted or TD5 Alive. I fancy a Disco/Defender with 200+ BHP. Just have to get that one past the Missus though.
 
Not going to be there on this occasion. Spent some time doing stuff to the motors today. Kev very kindly weled a small patch on the inside of the wheelarch at the rear, as well as effecting a short term fix on the suspension turret. He kindly helped me get the wheel assy back into place as well. That means a trip to pick up some new brake pads tomorrow and that part should be done. Just the starter to put into place tomorrow and we could be rocking and rolling!

Of course then its time to get funky with the tracking and remote control system. That's gonna be fun. I am trying to decide whether I want to disable the ignition from my mobile phone, or trigger a 9 inch spike cunningly hidden beneath the driver's seat if the vehicle gets nicked!
 
Went to Whaddon, had fun. Needed a little tug early on but apart from that no problems. Did some deep water which was a bit touch and go. I'd say Whaddon is better than Devils Pit and certainly not as harsh on the motors if you pick your routes.

The Spydiemobile is awsome but it has blown an oil seal and needed to be recovered. Phils Frontera was also having an oil type issue and needed to be recovered. A real shame, hope you guys can get things sorted soon. As always if you need a hand with something give me a shout.

The Rangie boys were there and in full effect, especially Luke - you can hear that thing from a mile away, definately the best sounding V8 on the day.

Anyway, even though it was wet and a bit cold, a good day out. How did you guys do on the London to Brighton, or is that next week?
 
BTW nearly forgot, met up with Disco52 - hope we didn't put you off and that you enjoyed your ride around, shame we had to cut it short. Anyway, welcome aboard.
 
I was having fun.:D Lucky I stopped to rescue a stuck Disco. Jai noticed oil under the car. Crankshaft oil seal has let go big style. Really annoying as it's new, as is everything on the engine. Means pulling the engine to replace a £2 part. No damage to the engine though, just a hassle.
I'm really happy with how it performed, it was going through everything no problem at all. Shame we had to finish early.
Gibbo Phil took the right decision in recovering his motor. I've learnt the hard way in not stopping when the oil light comes on. Lets hope it's an easy fix.
Good to meet Disco52, hope you got an idea as to what its all about.
Kev thanks for waiting with me, stopped me freezing my butt off waiting for the RAC.
That's the third time, hopefully the last.
 
Mine was having problems had no oil pressure so topped it up but still no joy so had to resort to getting recovered home.

Got home after waiting 2 and half hours after trying to to the recoverey driver we hadn't been to whaddon ;) offer wise he wouldn't take us. started the motor and its running fine no problems with it now so gonna give it a oil change as think after pushing so hard today and other days the oil is a bit thin :D

Thats twice in 2 months for me. think its an easy fix at least i hope so.

As spiderman said its was good to meet you disco52 hope to see you out more often.

bret did you say you got some photos of the water hole? really thought i wasn't coming out of that on my own

Phil, glad to hear it doesn't sound too bad. Might be worth taking the sump guard off and having a good look though. It might even be worth dropping the sump and making sure there's no gunge/sludge or metal bits (OMG lets hope not) in the bottom. Spydermans photos are great, we had a look at them while we were waiting.
 
Sounds like you guys had an eventful day. Sorry I missed it but hopefully next time!

Especially sorry to hear of the mechanical issues! but at least they should be repaired fairly economically.
