i have just bought my first land rover,it's a series 3 109.it was parked up 7 years ago and hasn't moved since.i tried to tow it and couldn't,it was suggested that i hit the brake drums and handbrake drum with a hammer to unstick them.this hasn't worked and i pulled the towing eye out of the back of my volvo whilst trying again this afternoon, what can i do?

most likey yer hand brake thats stuck on so if yer moving it to someplace to work on it , whip yer rear prop orf

jack up each wheel in turn and see if yu can turn the wheel - if yu cant - try removing the drum on that wheel. also try removing the rear prop and removing the handbrake drum.

yu could also try removing the rear prop and then see if the engine revs ok in gear - that wud confirm the hand brake isnt siezed - mite even free it if it is.

did y'awl back off the adjusters before yer ****ted the drums with yer biggest hammer?

it's sitting in muddy ground and the engine doesn't run,do you think if i just cranked it over whilst in gear it would free things off?

no!, can you not find a farmer with a tractor to pull it out so you can get to the prop

no tractors round here and i don't want to screw up my volvo by putting a strap round the axle.and yes it is definitely out of gear.

well you can either climb underneath it and **** the transmission brake drum or you can leave it where it is and tell the bloke you have changed yer mind and ask fer yer money back

when yer gonna have to get muddy.. if its bin sat then yer main brakes wont have bin on, so in all probability its yer handbrake that is stuck

so did you think that if it had been sat in a field for 7 years you would just drag it out and take it home??

it's not in a field but yes i did think that!i knew it didn't run and needed work but i thought i would be able to move it onto a trailer.
