Having just retrieved my first defender a 1993 Defender 90 from the shipyard (Thank you GB) the excitement inside of me cant wait to bury the wheels in mud. I’ve Been going over every bolt and nut to ensure that I don’t run into any problems and have noticed that there are quite a few bolts loose. I’ve worked hard on finding anything to tighten and now believe i have found most. Is this a common thing? The one issue I’m noticing is the oil pan is leaking. I did tighten a few bolts on it that where loose but the leak remains. Is there a gasket for this or does it just require gasket sealer. Any recommendations on which sealer i should be using?

Bolts will often work themselves lose with the vehicles vibrations.

Good that you took the time to check the Land Rover before using it.

You can change the sump gasket if it’s leaking.

Probably best to use some degreaser and wash the entire underside down first then observe before you go chasing leaks.
My bet is that the leak is coming from higher up.

There is a gasket but when i did mine the new gasket also leaked so removed it and used Loctite RTV sealant no more leaks.

Or buy direct and at much lower cost. Both are proper RTV's, both working upto 250degC.
I've used Granville for many years, it never fails.
