Ok, if its not immobilised and you have a new car battery and its cranking ok, and the fob is knackered - from the Land Rover handbook;
Emergency Key Access (EKA) In the event of a remote control failure follow the procedure to enter the four digit code. This will disarm the alarm system and re-mobilise the engine.
 
Long shot - check the inertia switch.

Thats very handy info mystery. The connection refs and fuse refs don't appear to match up with the op's car which is a 63 Puma (when I compare them to the wiring circuit diagrams). But the descriptive logic seems plausible.
 
I understand that the fob might be fubered. In you first post you say the red light stays on, this means the engine is immobilised. Using the EKA will overcome that situation and get you going. Then you can try and resynchronise the fob or replace it (but replacement is beyond my knowledge).
You need a hawkeye total, think I've seen one in the for sale section.................lol;)
