hi,
after looking again at my melted wires today it appears only one wire has actually melted completely.
can anyone help with what it is and where it goes so i can run a new one.
it attaches to the back of the ignition barrel and runs into the bulkhead, but for some reason it isnt attached to anything under the bonnet?
i am guessing it should be or it would not have melted? I dont know if i have disconnected it by mistake when looking in the wires?

as the landy is stuck on the road I plan to run a tempory wire out of the loom so i can at least get the car started and moved onto my drive. dont really want to take to much dash apart at the moment as its a nightmare and I am planning on changing the bulkhead later in the year anyway so i can do it neatly then.

The back of the switch should have the following colours
Brown
White
White/Red
White/Orange
Eliminate good wires to see which one it is

The wires onto the barrel are as follows:

Thick brown
Thick brown and red
Thick white
Thin white and red
Thin black and white (this is the melted one)

Any ideas on what the black and white is or where it connects to?

Or will there be a wiring diagram in the Haynes manual? I'll buy one quicker then

I haven't tried starting it to be fair due to the smoke and glowing wire.
I'll try turning it over again, but if I remember from when it happened I don't recall it engaging

It's a 200tdi conversion from a td so guessing that's wire the wires are non standard.
I'll put battery back on and have another look in morn.

When the smoke started the car cut out and then would not re start so could be starter wiring I guess

I am getting a loom from autosparks as had a similar situation as yours and noticed wires had burned and shorted together

Yes
From research it would appear that the black and white wire goes direct from the ignition terminal 5 to the stop solenoid.
Usually melts when people try installing fuel cut off so wondering if this has been tried.
Anyway apparently it is a direct wire so I will try replacing this on Tuesday when I can get some wire.

Just got to find the stop solenoid now :)
I'm new to 200tdi

Can you not put a cut out switch on to the solenoid wire ??

Ok, it's back running.

I ran a new wire from the back of the ignition barrel to the stop solenoid and it fired straight up.
Some other wires are a little charred but are still fully covered.

Looking at the wires they could probably do with being re-done at some point but that can wait until the summer.

Thanks for all the help
