Hey guys new here!!
Got a Defender td5 and she has started smoking after idling at lights or extended crawling in 1st etc (grey/blue smoke).

Check out my youtube vid: youtu.be/fAS0sFbivaA

Has done loads of k's 320k and is blowing fumes from oil filler.
Runs and starts well no loss of power, new turbo and chip tuned a couple of years ago.

Any help from anyone who has been down this road would be appreciated.

If it’s puffing out of filler cap excessively something is definitely wrong what engine oil you using?

Blue smoke is usually burning oil, coupled to the smoke in the rocker cover I would say your piston rings are on the way out. At 320K its probably due for an overhaul

Thanks guys, it was what I suspected. Last service i chucked in some 15w40 and yes didn't change much just smells worse than synthetic oil

Semi at the moment. Previously had 5w40 fully.
Is It possible my injectors are caked up or the inlet manifold is too full of oil and crap from egr?
I removed inlet pipe and oil was dribbling out of manifold.
P.s also removed intercooler and flushed it, there wasn't much oil in there. Cleaned all intake sensors as well.

It won’t be that little valve, though you should change it if it hasn’t been replaced in a while...leave the oil you have in it for a while and see if the smoke settles down a bit

Oil fill cap doesn't blow off video doesn't show much mist from cap but check out the catch can!

of course the engine will need to breath out of the oil filler when one pinches the breather hose
are you sure its not the the catch can creating to much crank case pressure ?
remove the catch can and then test just to rule it out

Took another video on the way home....
This was punching it up hill till 100kh under full load:

And this was take off at the next lights:

Valve stem oil seals? Not a known weak spot on TD5, but 320K would give plenty of scope to bake and harden some rubber
