We have just bought a 55 plate TD6 Vogue to replace our old TD5 Discovery.

There are a few minor bits to sort out on the car that I could do with some advice on:-

The passenger's cup holder is reluctant to come out. I can carefully prise it out with a screwdriver and I have tried spraying it with PTFE spray but it is still quite stiff and reluctant to spring out. Is there anything that can done with it, or is a replacement the best option?

Some of the silver paint is flaking off of the internal plastic mouldings. Is there a paint available that is a good match for the original finish?

It only came with one key. What is the easiest and cheapest way to get a replacement?

Think that's it. Well for now anyway!

Glen.

A plastic device that extends out from the dashboard, when required, to facilitate the consumption of cup contained hot and cold beverages, while driving, or being driven. In this case, the later, as it is the passenger's one in question.

Oh and it costs £90 for a new one.

Replacement is the better option....and yes they are sodding expensive.....

Try a breakers i.e. furness or Emmots of Colne....you may source cheaper S/H.

The mouldings are of crap quality and do regularly wear off and crack. as for paint, not idea, a decent high buid primer followed by acrylic spray would no doubt be the best option....but I am not a painter!

Only way to get a guaranteed second key that works is from your main dealer....and be prepared for the price!

The cup holders get sticky and the silicon spray sorted mine by keep operating it until it became free, the spring is quite week. I have started with my interior mouldings to convert to gloss black which is quite easy and could be done with halfords rattle cans or get them hydro coated in carbon fibre at somewhere like wicked coatings

Thanks chaps.

I will see if I can get the cup holder out of the dash and find out whats wrong with it. At least then I can give it a good dosing of silicone spray.

It is just the silver part at the back of the centre console, and the chrome and black pieces on the side of the front passengers seat that are really bad. Might see if I can get some metalflake silver for the centre console. Not sure if there is a chrome paint though.

I have now got a number for a car lock specialist, so I might try him for a key.

Another problem I have just discovered......the parking sensors don't work.

The reversing camera is fine but the light for the sensors is flashing, which I understand should be permanently lit and the flashing indicates a fault with the system.

I have listened to the sensors with the ignition on, and the car in reverse, and all of them are clicking except for the one on the front nearside corner. Would a failed front one cause both the front and rear sensors to become inoperative?

I will see if I can get at the back of it tomorrow evening and check out the wiring.

depending on which panels you have flaking silver paint on (it's called foundry finish) you could replace them with something much nicer, powerful uk do replacement wood effect & veneer panels to match the existing wood in the car, i've replaced nearly all of mine now and it looks so much better.

I managed to take the cup holder out this evening and it looks like the spring is too weak to slide it out. I did give it another dose of silicone spray but it didn't help, so it will have be a replacement.

The front n/s parking sensor wiring had completely broken through about 40mm back from the connector, so I soldered and heat shrunk the wires, and it is all working again.

A couple of new problems:-

The drivers heated seat button lights up for a few seconds then goes out again. It did stay on and work properly a few days ago but won't now.

The reversing camera image is a bit fuzzy and not as clear as it should be.

RRkev,

Yes, I have seen the powerful uk products, they look very nice but are quite pricey, and to be honest it is only the rear centre console panel that is bad, so I will go for a re-paint for now. Their videos on YouTube are great for advice on problems and I watched their one on parking sensors before mending mine.

The P38 version was repairable.....

The L322 I think is buried deep in the squab....not heard much on potential repair...not to say it isn't impossible....

Or just swap out the seat squab with another!

Ok thanks. I have been searching the heated seat issue and it appears that there can be problems with the connectors and the wires leading to the elements. Given that the seat heated fine a few days ago, I am hoping it might be this. Will have to get the multi-meter out and do some testing.

Today's new problem, which is more serious than the heated seat failure, is that the heater doesn't get hot. Any ideas on that?

I will get the damn thing sorted out eventually!

check the coolant level too just incase you have a leak, coolant leaks are not unknown on these cars

I am pretty certain that the coolant level is ok but I will double check tomorrow.

It could well be a stuck heater valve, the car hadn't been used a great deal for the 6 months before we bought it.

From what I can make out, if the fan isn't running, it could also be the hedgehog, or possibly the heater temperature sensor. I need to have a good look at it over the weekend to see exactly what's going on with it.
