Hello all.
I have a power problem with my Disco 2 V8.It will not pull very well, struggles to climb steep hills. It has an auto box which has been changing to a low gear.I do not have any revs to get up hills when in the gear.
Starts fine and idles at 792rpm

I checked the MAF sensor with Nanocom and have readings of 39g/s on tickover
and 206g/s accelartator foot to the floor

I have read on the forum these units can cause power problems?

I also have a code P1000 saying Oxygen sensor intermittent fault?

Be great if somebody could guide me please.
thank you.

You say you don't have any revs but it changes to a low gear. Do the revs go up when this happens? At what revs is it changing gear when driving on the flat?
Are there any other symptoms at all?
Have you checked for binding foot/hand brakes?

I think the P1000 is just thrown up when the ECU has not completed it's emission readiness testing rather than a proper fault code, it should clear if you leave the scanner plugged in for a bit longer

Thank you gents.
When the box changes gear it only got to about 2500rpm.I The it just died...ran out of revs tried it in manual and same thing the engine just was not revving enough to pull.I put it in sport mode and same thing again. Stationary it revs much higher.I checked all brakes and their good. Not binding hand brake is off. It got bette ron the flat, but dies at about 3000rpm.

When it gets to a hill it slows down, you can feel the gear change and then if i press the accelerator it just goes up very slow at 2500rpm,pressing harder nothing happens.

I am a bit foxed by it.I read on the forum about MAF sensors, so wondered about that.

Is the accelerator cable adjusted properly and opening the throttle fully?
Are you getting a good fuel pressure?
Have you checked compression?

accelerator cable is good seems to me all oping fine.....Please how do check fuel pressure....Nanocom?

I have not checked compression, do not have a gauge, but can buy one or go to a garage and get it done.

No signs of water in oil or any oil leaks round head area.

Thank you for your input.

I have just been looking at Nanocom again, this time auto box for faults and it sayes "P0705 fault position switch."Gearbox seems to work okay to me...just engine not reving,if i try to go faster my pressing the pedal it jolts and then does not pull away as i would expect.

I think yours is the Thor engine? If so there is a Schrader valve on the fuel rail where you can attach a pressure gauge

Thank you gents, mine is a 3.9 litre, (2001)it has what folk call a "bunch of bananas s" for a manifold.I will need a gauge to check this.
Can I ask are my MAF readings okay ?

T 39g/s on tick over

Thanks Stanleysteamer, I am a bit confused I though the XYZ switch was to do with gear selection and it telling the engine ecu the gear it is in?

I have looked at engine pics and i think mine is a Thor from looking at the RPI web site.

It is.

With any luck someone who has worked on these will pop on, but if the gearbox has its own ecu, i.e. a BCU like the TD5, then it will have something like an xyz switch, but if the gearbox responds mechanically then the gear choices will be made by the driver selecting the gear and or the range, i.e. D and then the gearbox will do its own magic as they have done since time began for slushboxes.
Without further knowledge or maybe a few pics or the underneath and more importantly the sides of the box, my knowledge is limited to the TD5.
The only other thing I can think of is the starter inhibitor switch, but I'm not sure this is what you are talking about.
But fear not, help will be at hand eventually.

Try google for typical readings, but if the MAF is suspected then unplugging it and test driving may be worth trying.

Thank you I will try this...
I found a posting with a comment that a reading of 57-65kg/hr for tick over and 550-600 kg/hr, foot to the floor is a good range.
I worked out mine are 39g/s and 206g/s from Nanocom readings.

So this = in kg 140kg/hr and 741.6kg/hr...not sure if this is a problem,I hoping a clever person can tell me.

I read that spraying contact spray on the sensors often revives themes will do that as well

I will disconnect the MAF and give it a go.

By your calculations, your MAF might be overestimating the airflow, hence overfuelling.

those figues are valid for a Td5 i'm not sure how they should be for V8, based on other forum post these are OK for V8:
At Idle...................... 20 kg/hr (5.5 grams/sec) +/- 3 kg\hr (0.8 g/s) (^)
At 2500 rpm............... 61 kg/hr (16.9 grams/sec) +/- 3 kg\hr (0.8 g/s) (^)
At 3000 rpm............... 90-100 kg/hr (25-27.8 grams/sec) (*)
