I am hell bent on getting my first Defender 90 Hard Top, have never driven one before and am aware of issues that a lot of owners have.
I have two options at the moment and I just need a little help from you guys..

There is a brand new base model Defender 90 Hard Top 2.2 that I was wanting to do a few upgrades along the line like seats, radio & rear windows etc etc

The other option is a 2011 Defender with all the 'packs' so fully specced but obviously the 2.4 and also 13 000 miles on the clock. My issue is the mileage and am just not too sure on which engine is better? I will be using it lightly (roads) on most days. The price on both is about £16k

Help will be appreciated
Cheers

The 2.4 is the Ford Puma engine if it's diesel, it's not a bad engine if looked after, think it's the same as the one in my Transit which is on 152K miles, 13K miles is barely run in.

Alternately the other option is to buy a TDi or td5 and do the mods yourself, you will save a lot of money

Does 16k get a basic 90?? Blimey, that seems cheap...i have no idea what new things cost, i get my oil filters from the scrappy.

Very close to new (200 miles)

I know 13K isn't a lot of miles and maybe didn't explain that part properly but it is a difference between owning a new car with a new engine which I have never done and have saved up a long time for it so don't really want to just rush straight in without a little advice.

Both my Toyota and Nissan were bought with about 50k mileage on and had a ridiculous amount of trouble with both.

As soon as you drive the new 90 off the forecourt you will lose 4k.

That other one sounds quite nice now doesn't it?

How's about a little joy & harmony? if I had a butler I wouldn't be looking at a Hard Top but maybe something with a few more seats.

theres me worrying about the crock of **** i will be buying for 3k,never mind got a big hammer, and loads of knolegable people on here only to happy to help me through keeping said crock of **** going, because we are all in the same boat, wish i had a 16k budget,if you can find a good enough example OP go for a late 200 or 300 tdi, learn how your vehicle works, buy some tools, fix it when it breaks
