Hi,

My battery got low and freaked out the BECM - the car was running fine, but when I came to start it again a few minutes after stopping running, the key fob opened the car and the interior lights came on, but it would not turn the engine over. There is a click from under the passenger seat (relay pulling, I assume).

After a bit of a charge of the battery, I used my SyncMate to put the BECM into "learn" mode and then entered the EKA code. Still the car wouldn't turn over.

The AA then tried for an hour to get the EKA into the car and ended up with the message "alarm triggered", but no alarm sounding.

I suspect my fusebox is the root of all evil here, so am replacing it, but I am left with a BECM that is in "alarm lockdown" and I can either pay £1000+ to get the thing trailered to the dealer and have them replace the BECM (because they won't just clear the lockdown setting), with no guarantee that will fix the issue (as the fusebox is looking suspect), or I can buy the faultmate MSV-2 at around £500, but would need an extra £600 of software from BlackBox to clear the error (as well as a special cable).

I need to get the car moving as it is parked on the road and can't stay there indefinitely, so I either need to bite the bullet or find someone who can come to the car with the appropriate software - is there anyone in the Bedford/Milton Keynes area who could help out? I am happy to compensate accordingly and will no doubt pass on the good karma when I get the faultmate, etc.

When you use the SyncMate - it has nothing to do with the EKA code.

The SyncMate reads the Engine ECU Immobiliser Code and Writes this into the BeCM so that the BeCM authorises the Engine ECU to start the car.

The EKA is something totally different and allows the BeCM to authorise the Key to be used.

The P38 has two levels of security....the BeCM has to recognise the Key or the EKA AND the Engine ECU code HAS to match the code stored in the BeCM once these are matched the car is allowed to start.

Hi,

Thanks for the info, but I had already figured that the issue is the BECM is in "alarm triggered" state, so when the ECU asks if it is ok to start the engine, it's not getting the OK from the BECM, hence the need to clear the "alarm triggered" state. What caused it in the first place is most likely a bad connection at/corrosion in the fusebox which caused the BECM to think it was being tampered with. I just need to get the error cleared from the BECM...

Ah I see now....yes if the BeCM is 'Alarmed' you will not be able to sync the keys or I am correct enter the EKA...Diagnostic intervention is your only option afaik.

If you purchase the MSV-2 you'll have it for other issues so can save you cash in the long term....but you'll have to wait for delivery from Cyprus so if you need it straight away a Dealer or helpful Indy or LZ member is the best option!

"Alarm triggered" does not mean BECM is on lockout. It just means the alarm has been set off. Maybe due to low voltage. It happened on mine all should be sortable with a Nanocom.

So, the consensus is that a Faultmate (or nanocom) might do the trick, a damn good battery charge and new fusebox are certainly probably a good thing and that I don't probably need a new BECM, which is all good.

The question still remains - anyone know where I can find someone who can to the diagnostic/reset at the vehicle if needs be, as I can't dismantle it at the side of the road and leave it whilst I post a BECM away...?

someone else (Blue beasty) will have to take over - lunch is finished. Good Luck :)

The Bedfordshire guys are a helpful bunch - if anyone can help you - they can.

PM Blue Beasty, ratty, fanatic & me a contact number that we can pass on, please

Ok pikied a charger but its down the road from work so I'll have to nip back and forth. Chance hooper PM me your contact number.

From Ryder.....

Outin school run but will try to get in touch when i get back. For towing and tech...i would suggest jail_landrover or his brother. Don't have jai's number i am afraid. Get the guy to text ,e his exact location..local land specialist would be autocraf in houghton regis. Cheers

Txt received actually in MK right now but have no access to tech to clear fault. Spitfiremk1uk also no tech can suggest Bill at auto land

Hi,

I have sent you a PM. I work in London, which makes it so much fun as I am only around to fix the thing after 8pm or on the weekend. :)

Hi, is Autoland the Houghton Regis place? that would be awesome, as I am based in Ampthill - car was dumped opposite the police station there by the AA lorry (wouldn't go into the narrow town centre!). Got a number for them?

Thanks so much for all the help guys!

One thing is for sure, I think I will invest in the full "extra" software for the Faultmate once funds are less stretched, as it seems like the slightest thing can trip the BECM and it appears to be a ticket to open-wallet surgery if you have to get the car towed and rely on the official LR network!

I really appreciate all the help. I love my Rangie, but will admit to threatening to take a gallon of petrol and a match to her when she decided to do this - wife just out of hospital after surgery over Xmas, young daughter to ferry around and we need both of our cars running. Always the way, I guess!
