Trying to fit rear crank oil seal in my 200 tdi.
Engine is out and on a trolley, buggered one up trying to knock it in:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Cant get it to push over the plastic collar supplied with it and on to the crank, just too difficult without damaging the flimsy metal outer.

I have left it soaking in oil overnight hoping that it will soften up and make it easier to slide on

Is there a trick to getting it on or am I just a dope :) ?

what kind of seal dowty type or std, i use a rubber mallet to tap housing ,soaking in oil wont help

Std type, tried tapping it with mallet but cant get enough pressure on it with fingers to hold one side while I tap the other, just keeps popping back.

Need to get it square but cant:)

Done it !!

Took a little fiddling but it went in. I used the old seal as a drift and tapped it home with a rubber mallet.

I put Loctite around the edge before I fitted it and just went for it.... was a tight fit though.

Making progress at last despite the rain:)
