I also wonder about the grille and light surrounds being silver, I think they would look better black.
What do you lot reckon?

Also worried about taking the plate off of the door bottoms as I don’t know if they are hiding anything.
As for the winch I like it and am going to leave it, I am not keen on the lights in the bumper and am going to take them out and weld in plates to cover the holes.
The big spots is another issue as I was going to take them off and fit LED (I know there not original) but I read a lot of bad comments about them so am thinking of keeping the spots, maybe repositioning them on an A frame bar would make them look better?

I don’t am not worried about it being completely stock standard and rivet counting just always had a picture in my head of what my Landy would look like when I could eventually afford one, and I have never liked snorkels don’t know why just always thought they looked naff

spots mounted centrally on an a bar is a far more traditional land rover look that Probabaly matches far more with what you imagined. Nothing wrong with having an image of what you want and trying achieve it. That is what I did with mine.
Also don’t worry about led. As long as they are good quality (not cheap eBay specials) led spotlights have nothing wrong with them and as they are only used with main beam anyway have no impact on driving.

As I said Definitly keep the wing chequer for that reason. I have mine painted and will see if I can find a recent picture of what they look like after years of use. I have also bolted mine on with countersunk Allen bolts so it is easy to remove to touch up when required. I just etch primed and rollers with black machine enamel.

I am in the black camp. But I am not a fan of lots of different colours. That is why I think everything should be black to match the rest that is black (rubbers, bumper, crossmember etc) I have black chequer and black wheels so everything is either red body work or black accessory.
 
made more Difficult to tell because made worse by the fire damage but the front half is undamaged. That is about 8 year of use after painting and you can see the silver beginning to show through on the tops of the treads but mostly still black and still much better than all
Silver. And that is Standing on them putting tools and parts on them and generally not being careful because it is a working vehicle rather than a show piece

Thanks dag019, I might try and paint the chequer plate in blue and see how it looks, if it looks crap will paint them black. have put an offer in on a second hand A frame on flebay.
How easy is it painting the headlight surrounds etc?

For the fact that most of them were black I would just buy new or s/h replacements in black. Will probabaly cost about the same as all the required plastic primer and paint prep!

Link they are hardly expensive and the pre td5 ones without the vents are even cheaper (not sure what you have)


Also be aware that most steel a frames (again don’t bother with the soft plastic ones) will be powder coated and water likes to get in behind it and rust away the metal While still looking perfect because of the plastic coating.
 
With the rivnut holes in the wing, if you've got some small offcuts of aluminium, epoxy them in behind the holes before you fill them. It'll give it a bit of strength and allow you to sand back whatever you're using to fill without it cracking or falling out.
 
Made a start to changing the colour of the front end grille and light surrounds, also fitted an A bar to shift the lights onto, bit of a pain trying to line up the bolts and have now realised I have to fit the lights to it before I fit the A bar so going to have to do it all over again, not tonight though because I am fookin nakard

looking better already.
 
Should have said I painted the silver chequer plate blue to match the rest of the body, I will see how long my shoddy painting lasts
