Hi all

I am a new member and needs some help.

I have a ex-army 110 (1985) and I have also just aquired a 1990 discovery. The idea is to replace the blown 2.5 N/A engine with the 200tdi. The additional problem is that the transfer box is in poor condition on the disco hence the questions

1) Can I use the TDI engine with the 110 gearbox/transferbox or will it rev too high.

2) What is the cost of a second hand gearbox which would work and does anyone have one

3a) Would it be possile to sell my 110 which is in good condition (but with a blown N/A engine) and the disco together as a project (disco has 6 moths MOT and Tax but body work very poor).

3b) If yes what sort of price should I ask for ?

Thanks for sparing the time to read

Hello mate Yes it can be done, just had the very thing done to my wifes 1985 110. The bulkhead needs to be trimmed, exhaust down pipe altered, intercooler pipe fabricated. I would recommend a new clutch and cambelt whilst it's being done. It will go onto the LT77 box. The garage that done the conversion is Apricot Motors in Bristol 01454 777544. We now have a 110 thats better on fuel and actually has some ommpf! As for selling maybe but I doubt you get what you would like. The disco also plugs into the existing wiring harness.

ask miniman for the site address, of his tdi/90 conversion. hes got some nice piccys about it.
the exhaust pipe problem is the worst part.

He is right the exhaust is the worst part. Best thing to do is buy the STEVE PARKER conversion it will save you alot of time and welding and cutting and welding and cutting and....ect ect... I did my own conversion in 4 days....not full days but yeh 4. Like they say wireing a doddle. Use original mounts off the 2.5 N/A.....
Ya need the Oil cooler pipes making an extral 28CM longer which cost me £40.... Save the disco throttle cable ya need that. Wire the heater plugs same as old N/A saves ya alot of time.......IE HOLD KEY 10 seconds START.......

There is a few pics here of the conversion for ya to chew on. If ya want me phone No just send me a PM and I will send ya it so ya can ring me for advice. I cant remember everything but it was WELL WORTH IT.....

BTW with the original gearbox full revs I get 80MPH 55MPH is a nice REV any more and ya asking to much of the engine so unless ya using on motorway......keep the box.......

Right use the discovery throttle cabel.....and...........

Thanks for the reply Brad, I think I will be going with the conversion as I really want to keep the 110.

Thanks Miniman ,the pictures are excellent. I may well take you up on your offer of a phone call just before I start the change our

Thanks again
Colin

When ya thinking on doing it. Also some of the studs in the belhousing are different so you will have to take I think 2 out. But there is blanks which can be TAPPED to put them where they should be.... Dont forget new clutch and release bearing / Thrust bearing.....
