Hi,
I am slowly working my way through the big list of MOT fails on my project 110 and I'm stumbling at the final hurdle. The Brakes.

• Brake pedal has insufficient reserve travel [1.1.2 (a)]
• Service brake effort inadequate at a wheel Offside Rear [1.2.1 (a) (i)] • Service brake effort inadequate at a wheel Nearside Rear [1.2.1 (a) (i)]
• Service brake efficiency below requirements [1.2.2 (a) (i)]
• Parking brake efficiency below requirements [1.4.2 (a) (i)]

I have bled the brakes apart from the nearside rear as the bleed screw has started to round off. I've tried adjusting the handbrake to very little effect, it appears the cable has no adjustment left, adjusting the shoe locks the wheels though!

Is there anybody localish who would be able to help? I'm in Woking.
I have bought new shoes for the rear, new shoes for the handbrake, a new handbrake cable and a replacement bleed screw.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!
 
Hand brake first. You should adjust the drum first until it goes firm and then back of a couple of clicks until drum rotates free. Only then should any slack be taken from the cable.
It is a common issue when hand brake is being worked on that the small parts of the expander come out and then get replaced incorrectly, result it does not work. Double check and also check springs in correct position.
Any air in system will result in soft/low pedal.

I've done all that, the handbrake locks the wheels when I adjust it, but it doesn't hold enough to pass the MOT, there's basically nothing left on the cable adjustment to wind in.

So your cable has stretched or is too long. Buy a new/correct cable, install and adjust.
 
Similarly as there is not enough reserve travel either there is air in the system which your bleeding should eliminate or the rear drums are in need of adjustment (same as the handbrake) as if they need to move further to activate more pedal travel is needed to before they will come on.

Noooooooooooo, our Landies are great devices for really learning how to fix these quite basic problems and enable superb skill sets.

Persevere, sit and get grumpy, swear lots, and when you eventually fix it the satisfaction will be 10x as much and you will know what to do next time it happens.

The best example of this that I have is the first time the timing belt on my 200tdi needed to be replaced. It cost me more in tools to do the job that is would have done to put it into the garage to do the job. However by doing it myself I learned what to do (and what not to do), and the 8 times I have changed it since it has cost me nothing but parts and couple of enjoyable hours tinkering under the bonnet.
 
Thanks, it needed new brake cylinders and a new brake house. I've done everything else on the MOT fail myself and was just getting so frustrated with the brakes there was no enjoyment anymore.
It's a project, there's a list longer than me of stuff I need to sort and I'm planning on doing as much as possible myself. Plenty of time to learn!
