Hi All.

I'm after some guidance on an agreed valuation for my Series 3 insurance. I've spoken to the insurance company and as far as I can tell I just fill in a form with what I think its worth and send some pictures. This is fair enough, but I have no idea what its worth.

I've tried looking on AutoTrader and eBay completed listings, but there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to the prices. Can anyone advise roughly where I should pitch it?

1984 Series 3, 200tdi Conversion, overdrive, pretty straight, original chassis. Some minor improvements but generally original. Some pictures below.

It really is just a case of finding similar on Auto trader etc and arriving at a a value thats fair...
The insurance company will agree or disagree but be careful the insurance company will tell you if the think....
Its over valued...
But wont if under valued they will just accept it and agree value....
Its all in your....

That's the trouble, they seem to go from anywhere between £1500 and £5k - galvanised chassis seem to make prices go silly. I'm guessing that a 2 1/4 diesel in OK condition is probably £2-3k but I have no idea if a conversion adds or removes value. I can easily calculate what I've spent on it - but I doubt that has anything to do with the actual value!

I suppose I can always put it down for £5k and get knocked back, but I'd rather not seen to be trying it on.

True, I suppose on the flip side you don't want to under value it either. I think the high prices with galv chassis you are referring to are a bit out there but 4-6k surely can't be miles off and will still cover you.
 
So long as your chassis and bulkhead are sound, £4k would be reasonable as it looks like it's in good shape. In my opinion (others will certainly differ!) the 200tdi conversion will limit its value in years to come, but as Series IIIs are only just beginning to climb in value, that shouldn't be too much of a factor either way at the moment.
 
My series 2 109 with 200tdi and overdrive, 3.54 diffs is about £6000 or just under.

You wanna value it so that if you wrote it off completely or it was stolen then the pay out will cover a replacement vehicle of exactly the same spec and condition.

I would say your series 3 is probably about £4500. The difficulty comes in valuing it because of the year 1984. Most would rather have a 90 or 110 with Tdi conversion or go for an earlier tax exempt example. However one of the last ones could be seen as quite rare.

If you take the year out of it and just say a series 3 that isn't tax exempt then it's between £4000 and £4500.
 
Mine is insured at a value of £8,500....galv chassis, galv bulkhead etc.

If I was you I would push towards £6,500 - £7k. My thinking behind this is that if it was pranged, the value might prevent a write off and justify a re chassis (garage to do the work). If the insurance co want reasons, you can easily find expensive examples in auto trader or specialist dealers.

Need to be careful, if yours was stolen and you got £5k on the insurance, there are now not many very good examples around for than money. Yours looks a good one.

Btw....check your oil levels - can't see a puddle under yours!

Thanks all for the advise, I think I'll go with a higher value and see what they say. I'll also make a list of all the adverts I found to provide some justification.
