Hi everyone,

I have been doing some work to my old series 3 truck cab recently, one of the jobs i have been putting off is the exhaust, but given that the back box has become completely detached i thought that i really should get it sorted.

I ordered what i thought was the right exhaust, but when it came the front tube from the manifold down is completely different to the old one. i had already removed the old exhaust, and noticed that every part of the 3 pipes was riddled with holes and was in general very badly worn so there was no question i could reuse it.

I think the problem stems from the fact that the landy was originally a petrol, but was at some point (prior to my ownership) she has had a series 3 Diesel engine transplanted. part of the inner wing looks like it has been cut away to accomodate the exhaust front tube.

I have played around with both sets of pipes and tried to figure out how they should fit, but am getting no where, i know i probably need to order another exhaust (or at least front pipe) but dont want to do that until i am confident the parts i order are correct.

Has anyone else encountered this problem and does anyone have any advice on what parts i need and how they should be threaded through the chassis?!

Thanks,

Iain

Is your manifold connection pointing sideways or downward?
If downward the diesel front pipe is longer than the petrol version
Is the new pipe similiar shape to old one if so possibly a petrol one

the maifold connection point comes out sideways, then the pipe goes down through a hole in the inner wing.

Are you sure it's a landrover engine? The diesel manifold exits downwards unless they have reused the petrol manifold (don't know if it fits)
If it's a petrol manifold, use the petrol exhaust. The exhaust runs down and over the g/box cross member then hangs off brackets the rest of the way.

If you ain't got a pit or lift its a right faff feeding the front pipe over the gearbox crossmember. The rear end of the pipe has to drop down lower than floor level to clear everything. The only other way is get it high on axle stands and dig a hole. Even then you may have to remove the gearbox mount.
You could always drive the front end up a garden wall.

X1. It's a right flaff getting it over the gearbox crossmember. The first section for a petrol comes straight down and bends back to meet the central section.

Part number 624196 listed as square flanged wing exit exhaust but usually used on a lwb.
Series 2 parts catalogue show a 4 bolt flange 505828 along with 264195 intermediate pipe and 276135 silencer swb set up
