any help would be most gratefull

1999 freelander,somtimes feels like a brake is binding,can be free wheeling down hill and speed reduces,also front drums get very hot & lots of brake dust on alloys,is it likely to be the above or somthing moore sinister like rear diff,ird or transfer box.

sounds like it might be the brake caliper piston seized, take the offending side wheel off and check movement/condition of piston.

Front drums? I thought the Freelander had disks on the front and drums on the back. Maybe you're driving backwards.

Hi, Just got freebe (Diesel) 1999, and sadly didn't notice this on test. So Appears that front breaks bind when on tight lock (If you can call full lock on a Freebe tight that is). Nice car! Fyi It does have disks on the front and their new on this one. You can see them through the front wheel. Any thoughts (apart form the send it over the escarpment with nobody driving).

yes front discs are binding, and if new then the fitter didnt take orft the leading edge, if its a binding caliper then it would pull one way [left or right] as yer chances of two calipers going at the same time are very slight. . . . .yup mark long time no see buddy

clearrock, could also be your not used to hippos. they all feel like they are braking when on full lock. as ming says if brakes are binding should pull to that side. how is it when coasting down a hill?

Hi All
Yup interesting car this freebe.. should have done more research... the old thing has a limited slip diff (at the back), so when I do a hard full lock the outside wheel tries to drive the other one so it rubs the road... lovely off road. Used to it now. Believe later versions use traction control to do the same job... I've just got a base model.

Thanks.. all adds to the fun driving the thing .. he he... actually does 40mpg, way better than my volvo (which gets to stop at the first sign of snow). Don't think there is anything wrong.
