I am looking to build a Tonneau Cover for my defender 90 pick-up, and i would like to be able to have the cover lift vertically to about the truck cab roof height. what kind (name) of hinges will do this ?

the need to be able to handle the weight of the checker plate lid and a spare wheel jack and other bits

any help / guidance would be appreciated

do you mean a pair of gate hinges on the front so the back lifts like the lid of a box or some sort of sissor lift so the cover rises flat about 2 foot?

i think B&Q got them on offer at moment only in black tho

Would a gas strut system do?

If you recall the 'pop-top' caravans of yesteryear, they had a similar thing, but it does lift from one side first then the other is released.

You might be able to salvage a scrap caravan on the cheap too.
