After having the high pressure fuel pump replaced last week I had a quick look at the invoice which had been put in an envelope and had noted other comments. One of which was boost pipe rubbing on manifold bolt. Looking into the engine this is the curved pipe to the l/h side of the sensor. Sure enough the pipe looks fine on the outside but on the engine side it was almost worn through .

Now the cause appears to be a very not Land Rover looking bolt with a crosshead and a washer that is also too long which would be why it's rubbing. We've ordered a new set of silicone hoses. However does anyone know the part number for the proper bolt and rubber grommit which persons unknown have also destroyed but put back on.
 
can't help with part number ..
( same bolt on mine dropped on the under-tray at one point
( i replaced it with one similar i had to hand ..
( managed to retrieve the old one some time later ..
anyhow .. when you replace those hoses ..
be easy to rig up a 'buffer' between the new hose .. and that offending bolt ..

engine vibrations will see to it ..

this is a common problem with the freelander ones the turbo tubing rubbing on the bolt but maybe the previous owner lost the original bolt so do not feel ripped off

Not just Freelander's either. When I got my D3, I found loads of bodges all over the place. Considering it had only ever been to LR for maintenance, it's not good a good advert. I found things like loose wheel sensor wiring where the locating bracket bolt on the front upright had sheered off and a zip tie had been used as a substitute. This allowed the bracket to rattle about. There were many more similar bodges too. :(

Isn't there supposed to be a plastic sound proof lid that goes on top of all that stuff? If it were installed, as LR intended, the bolt would be one of the anchor points for the cover, and the stuff underneath would maybe last a bit longer?
Having said that, I bought one of the cover thingies, and I can't figure out how to fix it on with the existing hardware...

Thanks for all the replies. I had a closer look yesterday in the gusting wind and squalls when I exchanged all but the top l/h pipe, the one with the wear, with silicone replacements the small pipe between the sensor was very squidgy. Our car didn't have the front acoustic cover when bought. I've left the remaining until I've resolved the bolt issues. In the attached picture 1 is the bolt some idiot has sheared seeing as it has a rubber gromit into which the metal spacer fits you would assume it didn't need much torque to secure it. It's probably been like this since bought as our driveway has been up since then so I've had oil changes and servicing done by a garage, if it was them they would have told us as I've known the owner for years and he lives 2 doors along from my father in law. The screw securing the air intake assembly (under no3 in pic) which is rubbing has a metal spacer (insert plain) under it. Looking at the schematics as far as I can see the screw DYP10035L which has a washer, However on our car no washer on the screw. So I'm going on the assumption the washer has been lost and the as the front mounting bolt has been sheared the person has for some reason used the spacer (insert plain ) which has forced the aircleaner assembly + the screw further than it should be. I've got the bolts and spacers etc on order now. It's going to be extracting the sheared bolt that will be the pain. Thanks again for the replies I know it's only minor but it is annoying and time consuming.

i'd question whether the stuff underneath would last any longer
given that extra cover might act as a heat trap
in any case .. it's one more thing to remove to access various parts ..
having never seen one .. i don't know if it covers the intercooler hoses
but .. if it does .. it might act somewhat against the purpose of the intercooler

as it's related .. this is the best air-intake / intercooler-hose assembly i've seen ..

Ooohhh! The old acoustic cover, I'd completely forgotten about that. I had one, but I snuck out one night, took it off and shot it. Useless piece of plastic s**t. Mike
