are you talking about the airt inlet manifold? Is it coming out from there or a joint just a little lower?

yes the aluminium air intake manifold,i carnt see where its coming from all i can see is that when you rev over 2.5k it runs along the manifold gasket to the back,it appears to be coming from underneath it somewhere.i dont know if theres a crack in the manifold or something.

Hmmmm, I am thinking it is either your head gasket or the head has gone porus.

I am sure that some one else has a much beter idea than me on this as this is just my ideas.

could be the thermostat housing, i've never heard of head gaskets throwing coolant into the valley

thanks james, ive have spoken to the land rover specialists when i picked up the intake manifold gasket yesterday and they have told me theres no way that the head gasket could be gobe nor the head porus as it would not leak through there,
also thanks to clutchdust, ive taken the thermostat housing off today and checked that and put a new gasket on it so ot that either mate.

can you get a pressure tester and pump some pressure into it.. you should be able to get more pressure into than running engine will. more pressure will make the leak easier to see.

hi slob, that was going to be my next step i think either a pressure or compression test.
does anyone know if these aluminium intake crack or anything?

OK..suffered something like this just recently on my V8. On the passenger's side above the LH valve cover at the front is a small square aluminium box about 2 inches square and it has two or three hoses coming out of it. It has a small gasket between its two halves and the mating surfaces corrode and it leaks between the gasket and it runs down the valve cover. Mine needed a new gasket, but the only way to buy the gasket was to buy the housing as well ($88). Simple replacement and problem solved. Hot smell went away too (funny that)

hi outback, ive tried that tonight and had a look and it does not leak from there at all i think im convinced that its the heads.

hi everyone have had the manifold pressure tested today and its fine,so ive started to take the heads of and have managed to get hold of 2 recon heads complete and another manifold,do you think im doing the right thing?

If that is what it is then yes go for it. good luck, take some photos of how you get on.

Good luck.
