Hi, I have a defender 300tdi 110, it has over the last 100 miles developed a transmission noise that sounds like I have off road tyres on . It only does it under load, the faster I go the more it whines, if i come off the throttle it stops , does it in low box as well , sounds like a badly worn wheel bearing, have looked at ujs, greased them, they all seem okay, changed oils about 1000 miles ago, gears all change good, wonder if its front diff, any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks .

Thanks , ujs okay, it's quiet on the over run only when I accelerate or , more power more noise, more speed also more noise, you can adjust the volume by the amount you have your foot down, the wheel bearings seem okay to.

worth looking ,checking oils by draining a little out for metal sheen etc ,feeling by rotating props by hand

Hi I think it's the front bearing in the transfer box, does any one know if that's a box out job thanks.

No ! Transfer output bearings and seals can be changed in situ ! Take seal/circlip out and loosely put flange back on shaft with nut that you can now use as a bearing puller to take shaft and bearing out !
