my turbo was squeeling its head off on my 200tdi,
sounded like there was no oil getting to it so i have checked that and the oil flow is fine, then i checked the movement on the bearing inside the turbo, there is a little bit of movement is this good or bad?
if good any suggestions on how to prevent the squeeling?
if bad do you know where to get good second hand turbo's or reconditioned ones from?
oh and also would a TD5 turbo or 300tdi fit onto my 200tdi as i have found a second hand one thats local but dont want to buy if its not gonna fit

thanks Rio

Td5 turbo would be no straight swap first you would have to be sure that the engine is in top condition, then pipe work, exhaust manifold would need to be custom to fit, then fuelling will need doing ect , etc.

Best to get the standard turbo and tune the engine to get the same result

what about a 300tdi turbo?
and should there be any movement because it looks good just with a little play?
and so what do you recoment because i am no major mechanic but i am confident enough to change the turbo seen as how it is on top to easy to get to etc...
thanks rio

300 can be made to fit IIRC by turning it 90/180 degrees?? But don't quote me..

there should be a small amount of movement on the vanes. Why do you think it's the turbo squealing and not the alternator??

and how would you diagnose the alternator?
and i think its the turbo because as soon as it gets to about 2000revs or so it just screams when the turbo kicks in if you get me
thanks Rio

If play in turbo is more than 1mm then I would say it's fooked
If you get the manifold and turbo then the 300 Tdi one will swap but you have to turn the turbo about 180 to 90 degrees to get it to fit .

what if i got a 200tdi disco turbo would that just bolt straight on or what would i have to do?
thanks rio

Why didn't say it was a defender. ?? disco is completely different. I believe 300disco turbo will fit but I have been known to be wrong?? (okashunully)

oh right well my turbo is pretty much next to my rocker cover on my engine is it the same with disco 300tdi's?

where is the 300 disco turbo abouts on the engine is it near the top or further down?
thanks rio

you would find it easier repairing yours ,all other option require modifications to exhaust and pipe work, oil and air

do you know any good places to get it refurbished?
also roughly what price range?
thanks rio
