Yes, I cannot lie, I have no idea about LR's and my brother has asked for some spotlights/light? If someone could kindly suggest the best type (most authentic too I think?) I have seen a bar, spotlight, so many types and I'm so confused. Also if there are any other add on that you may think would be good for his beloved LR, all suggestions welcome, he loves fishing/cycling or just any amazing LR gadgets that you think he may not have be aware of- the LR has only been his for around 6 months but he loves it more than anything! It's a big birthday coming up and we are all stuck for gifts, so thanks in advance!!! Jo
I have tried to upload a photo of the LR- think it is 2005

well, you need to know what he would use them for, spots, flood or driving.

Also, where would he fit them? On the roof rack? Might get glare.

Since you don't know what to get him, I'd throw this open and ask, what would you get someone new to defenders for £150 :)

The usual configuration for a Defender to get all lit up is often two spots down on top of the front bumper, and sometimes two foglights mounted below the front bumper.

To go with that there's also the option of a set of four (or even six) spots mounted on a bar above the front windscreen, for off-road use.

It might help if you told us where you are and where's the Landy ... maybe if you ask very nicely, and offer some cake (accepted as currency on LandyZone) there might be a member close to you who can give you some specific advice.

Then again, it's a personal thing. Maybe he wants to pick it :D

I'd know what I'd want if that was my landy, a good winch bumper with a good winch. Would probably need new springs upfront as well, and another battery?

You could go another route, I'd love it if I got a landrover driving course showing how to drive offroad. That would fit in the budget.

And maybe worth considering might be some security devices such as a disklock and pedal locks.
Defenders seem to be fairly high up on the villain's lists.

Ooh! Landrover off road driving course sounds great! That's a brilliant suggestion. Now for the lights, as per brian47 suggested, 2 spots down on top of front bumper and two foglights below would be an option- any brands or stockist suggestion helpful, i take the suggestion maybe not buy but at least I can look into it being a surprise (i'm big on surprises) My brother uses this LR every day, to and from work, so more day to day use than recreational?

My own feelings about additional lights on the front bumper (I might be contradicted by other members) are that because they tend to be in a position which might be vulnerable to day-to-day damage or possible theft, I would go with a fairly cheap set, that way it's no great shakes if they have to be replaced at some time.

Take a look on the dreaded ebay or halfrauds.
Nice big round spots, about 7 inches with guards and a pair of rectangular fog lights.
The spots on the front of mine, on my avitar are Wipac 6 3/4 inch diameter and about 25 quid a pair.

apologies, i thought i posted a reply? the driving course is a great suggestion, i see there is one in Dunkeld, so ideal as a day trip. For lights, i will follow Brian47 for 2x spots on front and two foglights mounted below. Any brand suggestions welcome. I also think maybe to make sure they can be returned incase they are not the best, I just wanted to do my homework first. Thanks for all your help.

I don't envy you, the range is wide and they have different uses eg. devon 4x4 lighting . I can't recommend any tbh.

I've seen mention of wipac down the cheap end to rigid industries, lightforce and kc daylighters for the higher end. Huuuuge range.

Then there's this guy who diy'd it http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f16/led-spot-flood-lights-217121.html

have fun ;)

i think given hes got a nice roof rack, the 40" light bars look great. would end up looking like this.
