Is this the same vehicle ?
No, the cat b was a 1999, which is what adds a whole new level of confusion to a straight chassis swap.

Nooo, silly stamp it with the nummers of the one you are replacing, the one right for the reg no it will use.Hmmmm stamping a Chassis with another's ID number? Wonder what would happen if GOD FORBID an accident that resulted in serious injury or worse and the vehicle is put under a microscope?

That's exactly how I saw it too, but he does appear to have used some parts from newer vehicles, some removed from a scrapped/written off vehicle so it makes it a bit messy.Forget everything....
The 'new' chassis, does it have a vin number? If yes then hope it's not stolen, if no has it a. Been ground off (your in the ****) or b. Never stamped as its was brand new
As for the points system as long as then non numbered parts are age correct there isn't anything they can do

I've done this many, many times with bikes but didn't think it was possible to change body type. mainly after reading all the LEZ threads.
Thanks for everyone's comments and input, just so people are aware I will explain what I did,
I first bought a 1988 rotten 90 csw
I then purchased a genuine tdci chassis from a company on eBay that specialises in genuine chassis (year of manufacture unsure as it had no Id)
I then removed the mounts and fitted 300tdi mounts to suit what engine I planned to use, then sent it off to be galvanised.
Then I bought a rolled 1999 CAT B which I used both axles and rear tub from sold the other parts that could be salvaged the chassis then was cut up and scrapped as it was just as rotten as my 1988.
After buying various parts from shows and eBay and breakers I built up my 90 and put it back on the road using the 1988 registration.
So how did you register the vehicle and get it taxed & MOT'd ?I didn't have a clue about the points system until the last few weeks or how it was calculated
2 points for the steering ? ... if you used that ...I used the original 1988 which I bought in the first place

Not really, Puma bonnets weren't available in 1988, nor were TDCI chassis.Parts are still ago correct though ?
