Ok, hopefully I'm in the right place now, if not I'm sure someone will tell me different

I need help trying to figure out what is wrong with my Range rover (P38 2.5DSE)

Couple weeks ago the drivers side brake bulb blew so replaced, but ever since this I have had one constant problem in that the wipers, windows and heating display intermittently works. When it does decide to work it is going on and off constantly and a "clicking" sound can be heard from underneath the drivers seat. Any ideas please? Very hard to drive around in the rain with no wipers! :mad:
 
Welcome to the Range Rover section.
The Body Electronic Control Module that powers just about everything apart from the engine, gearbox and suspension is under the driver's seat. Unfortunately the heaters in these cars leak into the cabin right where the BECM lives. Oh and so can the sunroof and the driver's door seal and the pollen filters!!
The BECM does not like getting wet and can give all sorts of peculiar results.
 
Ahh ok, the drivers door seal is not good at the top of the door so the rain can get in there, but I will check tomorrow morning once I have dropped kids off for school, will it just be a matter of drying it out if it is it?

If it behaves itself as it dries out, or starts to improve as it starts to dry, then it's worth working on. Almost guaranteed it will need opening and introducing to the wife's hair drier whilst you look for any corrosion. Unless you know EXACTLY what you are doing keep your fingers, tools, spray cans and anything except warm air out.

If you have further problems then a forum member called Rick-The-Pick is god when it comes to BECMs. He can repair just about anything, through his company called Callrova.

Hmmm, I am the wife, or at least ex, but hey ho

It's funny you should mention the damp tho, as, the other night when I wanted the wipers obviously they wouldn't work, and then the next day when it was roasting the damn thing all works again.

Extension lead required I think....

Best results would be to remove the BECM and dry out and unless the cause of dampness is sorted PDQ it will get expensive :eek:
 
Remember to taste the water, if sweet look at heater core o-rings
Range Rovers just don't like water inside

I know that this doesn't sound 'nice' but, if you do find that your carpet is wet, it's important to know where the water is coming from.
A leaky door can be bodged up for a few quid or have a new seal for a few more. A leaking heater 'O' ring officially requires an 8 hour long repair involving removing the dashboard.

Not true, check out the "how to section", quicker removing the radio and go in through there. :)
