I have a Freelander 2002 Td4 this is the problem/symptons
On tick over engine runs clean (no smoke).
on acceleration heavy smoke.
on constant revs very slight smoke.
When ticking over and throughout rev range engine sounds sweet as a nut!
However when running there is an obvious build up of pressure in the crankcase, this is evident by removing the dip stick and oil flowing up the Dipstick tube!
If i remove the dipstick and slacken the oil filler cap the pressure is eliviated and the smoking is significantly reduced.
I have ruled out the cyclinder head as the problem as i had a water pressure test done and no leaks -also no oil in water or visa-versa.
I was thinking it could be piston seals but i would expect this to affect the running of the engine and as i said it runs sweet!
I have read on here that there is a crankcase filter which if blocked could (by the sounds of it) be causing this problem!
However i seem to be struggling to find where this is located on the engine! I have scoured my haynes manual and it is no help (no mention of crankcase breather).
So could someone please tell me accurately where it is located and how to change it!
also i keep reading about a BMW replacement? details on that too if poss.
Finally if anyone else has any ideas as to what the problem could be please comment.(in detail).
Many thanks in andvance.
