A diamond disc is better than a carborundum one!
Have you got a handbook for the car, it may describe an emergency release in there.
I know our L322 has it. A little plastic trim to pop out on the upper then pull a cable the the bottom need to slide a screwdriver down to the latch each side.
Sport will/may be different but sure there will be a less drastic route than disc cutters

Will have a look in glove box for manual.. bought as Cat D for engine.. garage put broken engine from my D4 in boot once they’d swapped, now l can’t get it out !
Do you see a little rectangle plastic trim on the lower tailgate like this pic not the best but just to the right of the light
And I have just tried no need a screwdriver you can actually reach the release with your finger down the gap on the lower this is what your feeling for

I am showing an L322 not a sport but can’t believe they haven’t got something similar.

Ah there lie the problem.
You have to be in it first
to do that.If your nicking it why would you open the tailgate. Unless your putting supermarket shopping in I suppose.
