Hello,

I have a 1998 defender 90 TD5 and i'm considering installing a double shock absorber turret and i'm wondering if after installing it i should use TD5 or 300tdi shocks.

by the way can anyone please tell me what is the diference between 300Tdi and TD5 shock absorbers ?

why are you installing double shocks on the front? are you doing the rears too? Im sure the rears come 1st.

Yes I'm installing double shocks on rear as well,
and replacing the spings with heavy duty ones, don't know if I should go for original HD or Birtpart.

May be a stupid question but wos the benefit of two dampers?
Double the damping I suppose...........but you can change the damping using different rate dampers
Is it to do with articulation, I am confused.

If yer doin comp safari or going on a long expedition like across africa, dual dampers are a must as you'll end up goosing yer dampers somewhere along the way, but with dual dampers you reduce the risk.

If you want some HD springs, I know of a full set of +2" Blues that have been used for 18 months and are now sitting in the garage. 320lb rate or there abouts...

The dual dampers are for expedition use.
Heavy loaded defender and 8 hour driving a day in rocky and desent tracks.

Anyway does anybody knows the diference between the 300tdi shocks and the td5 ones?

Reet, Disco I, RRC and Defender 200/300TDi all used same suspension arrangements - same shockers, different rated springs. From Disco II onwards they use different, P38 use different again, and when TD5 Deepender came out, they used yet different shocks again. I would imagine it's to do with length of shocker as they put bigger wheels on as standard and need the wheel arch clearance.

Can someone give me some advise on what front and rear springs and shocks to fit to my year 2000 LR Defender 90? I do no off road but tow a small horse box. I do live in the sticks in the Republic of Ireland where the main roads are notoriously akin to UK green lanes!!

I would like a softer ride than I currently "enjoy"
